In this Cold Process soap-making class, students will begin by learning essential safety protocols to ensure a fun and safe experience, and how to properly use PPE.
Next, you'll unleash our creativity by choosing your own fragrances and colorants.
We’ll then dive into a brief explanation of the chemistry behind soap-making, common terms and styles of soap. Next is the hands-on portion where we'll mix the lye solution, the base oils, and your custom fragrances and pour them into your take-home individual molds.
While our soaps solidify in the molds, we will cover the history of soap making from ancient Syria to modern french milled soap. We will cover how to calculate saponification values, use soap calculators, how to customize the oils and butters to achieve different results, how temperature affects "tracing", troubleshooting common issues and general online resources.
Finally, you’ll wrap up your soap to take home, so you can enjoy your handmade creation!
