THIS MODULE WILL FOCUS ON THE BASICS OF PACKAGING AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS, ANALYZING MARKETING AND DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS TO CREATE EFFECTIVE PACKAGING DESIGN SOLUTIONS 

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Develop knowledge of packaging design as a communication and marketing tool.
2. Comprehend the importance of packaging as it relates to protection against spoilage, breakage, tampering and as a method of transportation for an enclosed product.
3. Understand the packaging design profession, including professional
methodology, global issues, governmental regulatory agencies, and marketing issues.
4. Differentiate between packaging design and other communication forms.
5. Design a clearly defined package that stands out among its competitors.
6. Articulate the sustainable packaging design system concept, industry terms and their
comprehensive definitions.
7. Explain how to use specific industry guidelines and integrate environmental considerations into the packaging design process using best practices. 
8. Identify and analyze properties of various packaging materials, consider production methods and demonstrate how to maximize sustainability.
9. Demonstrate learnings to develop sustainable packaging designs.

• Demonstrate an understanding of the packaging design processes from concept development through comp production.
• Evaluate and communicate global, government regulatory and production issues, which affect
packaging design in the cosmetic and fragrance product categories.
• Analyze the marketing and design considerations needed to create effective packaging design
solutions.
• Plan creative directions, strategize and develop packaging for the cosmetics and fragrance marketing industries.
• Demonstrate an understanding of sustainable packaging design criteria and make determinations on appropriate structures and materials, printing and production processes.
