In this class, we will learn about the spice materials used in perfumery—ingredients that have been prized for centuries for their intensity, mystery, and cultural richness. From ancient pagan traditions and trade routes to modern kitchens and apothecaries, spices have been used since the very first fragrance compositions. In fragrance, they can evoke warmth or send a chill through the formula. They push freshness and warmth from background notes.

This session offers an in-depth introduction to spice materials and their roles in fragrance composition. We'll discuss spice classification and temperature perception (warm vs. cool spices).
