VETIVER NOSEDIVE (ONLINE)
Vetiver Accord Study
Vetiver is one of perfumery’s most versatile and sophisticated raw materials. Distilled from the roots of Chrysopogon zizanioides, a tropical grass native to India, vetiver is prized for its remarkable complexity and range. Depending on its origin and treatment, vetiver can reveal facets that are earthy, woody, smoky, dry, green, citrusy, nutty, or even subtly leathery. Its ability to bring structure, elegance, and depth to a composition has made it a cornerstone of both masculine and genderless perfumery for over a century.
In this module, participants will explore the many dimensions of vetiver and learn how perfumers use it as both a signature note and a foundational building block. Through guided smelling and practical formulation exercises, participants will examine different vetiver qualities and discover how to shape them into distinctive accords.
Through guided smelling and practical formulation exercises, participants will:
- Develop a deeper understanding of vetiver’s olfactive profile and its role in modern and classical perfumery.
- Explore the earthy, woody, smoky, green, citrus, and rooty facets that define different expressions of vetiver.
- Compare various vetiver materials and understand how origin and processing influence their character.
- Learn how vetiver interacts with other materials to create fresh, woody, oriental, and contemporary fragrance structures.
- Create and refine their own vetiver accord under the guidance of a professional perfumer.
Ideal for fragrance enthusiasts, students, and aspiring perfumers, this workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to one of perfumery’s most important materials while providing practical experience in accord construction, material evaluation, and fragrance design.
