Perfume History: Versailles is back! This interactive course, dedicated to smelling and understanding the history of modern perfumery, marks the return of some of our first classes at the Fragrance Alliance Network. If you missed our inaugural series on the development of French Perfumery from the late Middle Ages to the opulent court of Versailles, now is your chance to:

  • Explore how Grasse transformed from a town dominated by leather tanneries and their stench to become the world's capital of perfumery and the heart of France’s fragrance industry.
  • Understand how the famous break with Italy by the Sun King, Louis XIV, further fueled the development of domestic industries, including perfumery.
  • Embark on a multi-sensory journey through the decadent “Cour Parfumée” of Louis XV, whose legendary appetite for perfume rivaled its legendary filth.
  • Learn the truth about Marie Antoinette and understand how literary, philosophical, and cultural trends influenced a shift in taste from the heavy, animalic fragrances of the past to the lighter compositions we recognize today.

All materials included.
